DAVID E MARSH MBA, DMS, FMS, MBCS

David is an experienced Consultant and Lecturer. David's particular specialisation is in the provision of the necessary infrastructures to support structured Programme and Project Management methods and their successful use.

From an early career in Industrial and Civil Engineering he moved into computing in 1974 in the water industry into a project to design and build a computerised database for the National Water Council. After successfully running this database for 7 years he was a direct entrant (through open competition) into the Civil Service. Here for 8 years he was a consultant and trainer in the UK Government's Cabinet Office. He was then approached to join an international computer services company where he spent five years as a Managing Consultant. During this time he developed a unique (and commercially successful) portfolio of software and other tools for users of the PRINCE methodology.

He now runs his own Consultancy and Training Company, which provides services to support users of structured Programme and Project Management methods and the infrastructures that are needed to support their successful use.

David has wide experience in both the public and private sectors. He is able to work at all levels in an organisation and is known and particularly respected for, his practical, pragmatic and helpful approach.

His expertise is internationally recognised and he has written many articles and books on PRINCE and on Programme Management. He is also the author of the only comprehensive handbooks on Programme and Project Support in the world.

He is a regular presenter at national events, conferences and international seminars. David also develops and presents, a regular programme of International Seminars on Programme and Project Management and their support.

David was the Chairman of the PRINCE User Group Executive Committee and a Director of PRINCE User Group Ltd for 12 years. He was also a member of the PRINCE Design Authority Board and the PRINCE Technical Committee. He is a founder member of the Association for Project Management (APM) Special Interest Group for Programme Management and a Founder member and Chairman of the PPSO Specialist Interest Group.

John Zachar

John is originally from the USA and he joined CITI after an extensive career in hands-on project management. He applies his current project management experience, as the architect of many of CITI’s project management education programmes.

John not only managed an IT department for a decade, he has also delivered numerous IT intensive business projects; a number in the multi £M class, applying his strong business focus. His excellent people management skills include the ability to transfer his expertise in technical systems delivery, business analysis and the management of cross functional business projects and project teams. John’s experience includes management of business change programmes and change management processes, and his extensive ability to communicate permits him to motivate others to ‘just make it happen’.

John is also one of CITI’s Project and Programme Support Office (PPSO) experts. John has conducted numerous workshops about implementing or improving PPSOs for a wide variety of clients.

John has worked for one of the UK’s high street bank groups, and for eight years at senior management level with a national insurance company. John initially developed his people management skills and intuitive project management skills with the US military, where he managed maintenance, logistical, IT and education projects.

John earned his BSc from the University of Maryland and his MBA from Oxford Brookes University. John is currently a full member of both the APM (holding an APMP) and the PMI. He is currently Director of Membership for the UK Chapter of the PMI for the term 2005 / 2006. John is also heavily involved with a UK’s only non-affiliated Special Interest Group focused on PPSOs (PPSO-SIG). John also holds multiple qualifications for Prince2.

Chris Walters

Chris is an experienced IT project manager, currently working alongside the PSO and Project Management groups in a large mobile telecoms provider to bring about a step change in their capability to deliver individual projects, and the ability to forward plan and forecast portfolios and programmes, with a particular bias towards toolsets and skills.

Starting out in IT post-university "at the bottom of the ladder", it became clear to Chris that project management was the career direction that he wanted to take, and, using his strong technical background, various project management roles in IT vendors, end-user organisations and services companies have followed.

The projects have been varied (all with an IT slant), involving Year2000, Network Deployment, Software Development and Integration, Infrastructure Deployment, Methodology Consultancy and Implementation, as well as other diverse areas. This has resulted in industry experience in agriculture, investment banking, aerospace maintenance, biotechnology, insurance, shipping, manufacturing, leisure, engineering, cable television and telecoms.

Chris is a Prince2 Practitioner, holds the ISEB Certificate in Project Management, is an active British Computer Society Project Management Special Interest Group (PROMS-G) member, and is a keen committee member of the Programme and Project Support Office Special Interest Group (PPSO SIG), helping to organise event programmes and conferences.

Chris's ultimate goal is to drag the projects industry towards a world where staff are less focussed on data and more focussed information and knowledge, and the availability of tools and techniques allows project staff to spend time on developing and using skills to achieve quality decision making and therefore better project delivery.
